Six years ago, David made the move up country to Queensland from Victoria, starting a new life and looking for a new job. The stars aligned, because we just so happened to be looking for reliable, sharp people to help grow our Brisbane Managed Service Provider business. He applied, interviewed, nailed it and has been a Smile IT bastion of dependability ever since.
Six years seem to have gone by in a flash, and we’ve been through a lot at Smile IT. We’ve moved offices a bunch of times, seen significant growth in our team and expanded our business into a number of innovative new avenues. Through it all David’s stellar work ethic and enthusiastic attitude have helped steady the ship when the waves got a bit rocky.
We’ve loved having him onboard, we hope he sticks around for at least another six more years! To mark the occasion of his anniversary, we asked David a few questions about his time here.
When you started at Smile IT, did you think you’d be sitting here 6 years later?
After moving up from Victoria, I found it difficult to find a job that was in a similar field to my previous roles. Honestly, I was not thinking that far ahead at the time. I was just so grateful to be given the opportunity.
What’s been the most rewarding thing about the journey to this point?
I feel very fortunate to have seen first-hand the business evolve and grow into what it has become today. I love the team. Everyone here is treated with such respect and I love the camaraderie and genuine care amongst the team.
What’s been the most surprising thing?
The number of offices we have had to move into. This is a good thing as we have outgrown each one!
What’s been the most significant change in your role?
Late last year I was promoted to Technical Team Leader. This has enabled me to pass on my knowledge and experience to the team to ensure we continue to assist our customers across Australia effectively.
What have you learned about yourself while working for Smile IT?
I have learnt the importance of building strong relationships and connections with our clients. This in turn creates trust and open and honest lines of communication, which are essential for a successful managed IT services provider.
If you could give yourself one piece of advice six years ago, what would it be?
Learn to touch type with two fingers. Don’t be afraid to give honest answers to questions, especially if you feel that it will result in positive change.
What are you looking forward to in the future for your journey with Smile IT?
The evolution of technology and where it will take us. I have been fortunate to see the Smile IT business go from strength to strength. I am looking forward to seeing this growth continue but in addition, I am passionate about the development and growth of my team and leading them in a way that truly reflects the values of Smile IT.
